WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER/WHAT DO YOU DO?

Our educators help with all things college-admissions related. Each student’s plan is customized to their needs and where they are in the process. We help with the normal aspects of completing an application, including writing and proofreading personal statements and supplemental essays, as well as deadline management. We also help students with researching schools to devise a well-balanced list of universities to apply to maximize success. We strategize around majors, early decision deadlines, and planning high school course work to increase their chances. What sets us apart though is our commitment to self discovery and leadership development with our students. We often help students create and execute incredible leadership projects, such as building a company or nonprofit, conducting independent research, or finding internships with organizations around the world. This is partly to help their applications stand out, but also to help them discover and begin to articulate their unique passions and vision for contributing to the world. While we also help students with identifying and applying to scholarships, we do not help with completing the FAFSA or CSS applications for financial aid.

DO YOU HELP WITH STANDARDIZED TEST PREP (ACT/SAT)?

No. We can, however, help you find a stellar company that best fits your needs. We’ve partnered with several test prep companies to help make that search as easy as possible. We can also regularly communicate with test prep coaches, should you ask us to, to make sure everyone on your student’s team is on the same page.

DO YOU HELP WITH FINANCIAL AID AND/OR SCHOLARSHIPS

We do not help with filing the FAFSA or CSS applications. Our admissions director can help you find the best financial aid consultant to help you with that process. We do, however offer guidance around scholarship identification, strategy, and application. Our admissions curriculum does include an overview of the different kinds of aid available to families. This is something you’ll want to discuss with your educator or in a complimentary 45 consultation to get more personalized guidance.

WHO ARE THE COUNSELORS ON STAFF?

All of our counselors have been attended top tier Universities like Harvard, UCLA, USC, and Columbia. Our founder is a PhD candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, doing research on the most cutting edge college counseling practices. Other educators have backgrounds in Education, Computer Science and STEM fields, The Arts, and Social Sciences. They also have extensive backgrounds in college admissions either as academic researchers, admissions officers, or scholarship fund directors. Many of our educators also have incredible success outside of their jobs as SeekU mentors as professional musicians, actors, and writers, which we believe gives them a creative depth necessary for creating unique applications. After your initial consultation, you’ll be given the opportunity to connect with 1-2 educators that we feel might be a good fit for your student so you can choose your favorite. You’re also never restricted to work with just one educator; however, we feel that consistency with one educator is best.

HOW DO WE GET STARTED? WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?

The next step is to schedule a complimentary consultation with our admissions director. In that session, you will get a chance to share about your student, learn more about SeekU, and begin to develop a customized plan for your student.

HOW DOES YOUR COMPANY DIFFER FROM WHAT IS OFFERED AT MY CHILD’S SCHOOL?

We work with many students attending the top private schools in the world, and it is very common for students to have multiple support systems to ensure their success. However, we’ve found that even the best schools’ college counseling departments are not able to give the highly individualized, regular mentorship SeekU students enjoy. We keep our cohorts very small to ensure that each student is guided step by step through the process. Oftentimes, students use our educators to help them advocate for themselves at school and navigate relationships with their school’s college counselor who may not be readily available to them.

HOW DO YOU DIFFER FROM OTHER COLLEGE COUNSELING COMPANIES?

While the process of applying to college is often overwhelming and complicated, it is not full of hidden secrets. Any service or individual counselor who tells you they hold the “keys” to admissions success should probably be met with a grain of salt. In reality, the best college admissions counselor for your student is one who best fits your student's’ personality and learning style. Our counselors are extremely friendly, knowledgable, and young enough to be relatable to teens. We find that beyond our expertise and commitment to success, the “vibe” of SeekU's coaching philosophy is what students find most appealing.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

We offer one-on-one individual sessions, which includes 24/7 access to our online coaching platform. This ranges in price from $175/hr to $100/hr depending on how large of an hourly package you buy. To work with our founder and admissions director, Avriel, the cost is $200/hr with no discount for buying in bulk. I suggest scheduling a 45 minute complimentary consultation and from there we can help you decide what pricing option would be best for your family.

MY STUDENT IS NOT HEADED TO AN IVY LEAGUE OR VERY SELECTIVE SCHOOL LIKE UCLA OR BERKELEY. CAN YOU STILL HELP HIM/HER?

Yes! Extremely competitive students only represent a small fraction of the students we work with. Our curriculum is designed to help students make the most of the college application process, whatever that may mean to them.

WHAT SHOULD MY 9TH/10TH/11TH/12TH GRADER DO NOW TO GET STARTED?

The best way to get started is to schedule a complimentary consultation. From there, we will assess your student’s individual needs and devise a customized plan to help them move forward. Students of all grades can benefit from this consultation. It’s never too early to get started.

CAN YOU GUARANTEE MY STUDENT WILL BE ADMITTED TO THEIR TOP CHOICE SCHOOL?

No. While our students have enjoyed immense success, it is impossible for us to guarantee admission for any student into any university. Any program, counselor, or online tool that guarantees this should be approached with caution. It is simply impossible to predict which students will gain acceptance to "reach" universities. However, we do promise that students will leave SeekU with a greater sense of self-awareness and the information needed to put their best application forward.

CAN SIBLINGS BECOME MEMBERS TOGETHER?

Absolutely. The experience both students will have at SeekU together will depend largely on their existing dynamic. For many students, joining with a sibling makes the process of exploring one's strengths and aspirations even more fulfilling. Each student must join and pay individually for their memberships.

MY STUDENT IS ONLY IN THE 9TH/10TH GRADE; WILL SEEKU BENEFIT HIM/HER RIGHT NOW?

Absolutely. We believe that SeekU membership benefits all college-bound students regardless of grade level. In fact, the sooner a student begins to explore college admissions the better they will fare in the process. The best thing to do right now would be to set up a complimentary consultation so we can assess what would be best for your family to do next.

MY STUDENT ALREADY HAS A FRIEND THAT IS A SEEKU STUDENT, WILL THAT IMPACT her EXPERIENCE?

Peers are often the best source of support for students as long as they’re working together in a supportive, collaborative environment like our Los Angeles studio. We’ve found that peers can motivate one another and provide valuable feedback about an individual’s character that helps make the application richer. In fact, part of our curriculum draws upon this wealth of insight, oftentimes asking students to reach out to friends that know them well when writing personal statements. For students working virtually, this has no impact whatsoever.

CAN PARENTS SIT IN ON SESSIONS?

The initial consultation will include both parents and students. From there, it is recommended that students attend most sessions on their own, as parents can often cause a student to shut down or become irritated when processing through the hard work of college admissions. Occasionally, it is helpful for a parent to sit in on a session. However, a parent must always consult with their student’s educator first before planning to attend a session. Parents can also request individual sessions with educators and we often hold events just for parents to attend. We want to make sure you feel included and informed without compromising your young adult’s autonomy.

HOW CAN I GET AN UPDATE ON MY STUDENT’S PROGRESS?

Parents can schedule 15 minute phone calls or 1-hour sessions to meet with their student's SeekU coach, which will be deducted from your package at the normal hourly rate.
